Protecting Health Data
Translate a compliance expectation into a safeguard someone can explain and evidence someone can review.
What I assessed
A simulated environment handling electronic protected health information. The assessment groups security and privacy considerations into seven operational themes, including access, encryption, policies, monitoring, physical safeguards, and third-party oversight.
The governance question
What would demonstrate that the safeguard works? I connected the themes to representative evidence: access reviews, configuration records, training, network diagrams, logs, and vendor documentation.
A sample of the evidence
Identity
Role matrix, reviewed access decisions, and exception approvals.
Data protection
Documented standards and configuration evidence for storage and transmission.
Third parties
Defined responsibilities, agreements, access reviews, and sanitization evidence.
Current status
The summary is available. The underlying academic document remains private while inherited citations are checked. This is a portfolio assessment, not a formal HIPAA audit.
